Failing to do so may. John Middleton of Philadelphia. This John Middleton Harvard Class Pipe has a Sterling Silver Ferrule which is engraved with three initials of the student’s name: J. The pipe’s silver ferrule has also John Middleton hallmark J. M in an ellipse and “Sterling”. The root briar shank is marked with the John Middleton. Hallmark JM in an ellipse. This pipe is a true piece of History! I have no idea how many pipes were ordered from John Middleton by the 577 Harvard graduates of 1913. I also have no idea how many pipes have savived 111 years, two world wars and are still hiding in an attic some where. This is a scarce pipe and may be one of the last surviving pipes from the golden age before two world wars. It will undoubtedly be the focus of attention in your display and compliment any collection. This rare pipe is perfect for any tobacco enthusiast or collector of vintage smoking pipes and is a must-have for any fan of tobacco history and College culture. Length 14.3 cm, Bowl Height 4.5 cm, Bowl Max. Diameter: 3.2 cm, Bowl inside Diameter 1.8 cm. Bowl depth: 3.5 cm. This pipe has been smoked and is showing normal wear. The stem (mouthpiece) has some discoloration and teeth marks. The silver band some tiny stains which will need cleaning. Please note that I do not have the means to make a micro examination of the inside of the bowl – this is a matter for a professional pipe smoker or pipe maker. This pipe will be packed extremely well with the mouthpiece & bowl separately. Do not let this pipe slip through your fingers. I don’t consider myself an expert on all my findings, but I do try my best to describe them the best I can. I will be happy to send any additional photo’s. (Registered post or pick-up). This pipe will be sent by EMS. Sometimes postal service is getting slower especially at weekends and holiday. Occasionally there may be delays because of extra security checks at the post office. The pipe has been smoked once or twice, it is in excellent condition. The pipe is cleaned, disinfected, coated with a protective layer, polished and ready for smoking. On the stem, the logo has faded a little, as can be seen in the photos.
