2005 RARE “CERCLE DE LA PIPA” ITALIAN HIGH GRADE BRIAR SMOKING PIPE VINTAGE LANTARA SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION! Attention Collectors and Briar Lovers! This is a very special and Rare piece of art, carved out from one of the best top Plateu super high grade briars! Look at the perfection of tight 360 flame grain and those marvelous birdseye on top of rim! Also this pipe was carved EXCLUSIVELY for “Barcelona Pipe Club” for their 2005 pipe smoking event. It’s a 1/1 piece!!! Also 19 years old makes This briar a Vintage super Great Smoker!! All you can dream in 1 pipe is contained in this Outstanding creation with a Rodhesian shape style and kind of “Delecta” mounting shape Stem! About whom carved this marvelous smoker…. L’Anatra pipes, carved by Massimo Palazzi and Andrea Pascucci, herald from one of the great centers of Italian pipemaking, Pesaro in North Italy. Pesaro is famed for being preeminent in the world of pipe making to such an extent that, given its unique neoclassical styling, pipes made in the neoclassical style are often described as being of the “Pesaro School”. Pesaro features some of the greatest names in Italian pipe making, includingMastro de Paja, Rinaldo, Ser Jacopo, Le Nuvole, And Il Ceppo. Along with the area around Cucciago, Italy, this area has been at the forefront of the Italian pipe renaissance and the Pesaro style has permeated the method and style of pipe makers throughout Italy. The pipe makers of Pesaro all but created neoclassical pipe making. Neoclassical pipes are characterized by their loose interpretation of traditional shapes and their focus upon elegant, artistic lines and curves. Indeed, neoclassicism from Pesaro did to Italian pipes what the early Modernist artistic movements did to sculpture and painting. The influence of the great Pesaro pipe makers is clearly visible in L’Anatra pipes, and yet L’Anatra has a style very much unto its own also. L’Anatra pipes, though certainly elegantly neoclassical, are more playful. It is difficult to articulate this playfulness in the form and composition, but clearly Palazzi and Pascucci have sought to push the boundaries of the neoclassical form. The result is elegant while seeming less formal and urbane. The styling seems as much intended to amuse as to impress. It is rare that an artisan of any variety can make light of his pursuits. One might argue that it is even more rare among pipe makers given the traditionalism that typifies them. Indeed, it is delightful to see pipe carvers of extraordinary ability and talent that are so in love with their craft that they are able to create pieces that display their silly, playful side in addition to their virtuosity as artists. The Shell Briar’s addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill’s innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it’s no surprise that it’s still wildly popular over a century later. IN VERY GOOD SHAPE! 48 Year Old Pipe!!!! Rare Vintage Peterson Giant Smooth Bent P-Lip Pipe. Made in mid-1970s Era – Very Nice! This is a rare vintage Peterson Giant Smooth pipe, probably made about 1974, and it’s in very nice to excellent condition. This is a Speciality Pipe (sometimes to referred to as an XXL) that was made in limited numbers. This one has the arched “Petersons” (with the forked tail) over “Dublin” on the shank’s left side. The right side has the imprint Made in the Republic of Ireland. Look at the amazing circular grain pattern on the lower right side of the bowl – it’s amazing. There are dozens of tiny birdseye marks ascross the bowl and stem – please see photos for detail. This is a powerfully beautiful pipe. It’s been lovingly cared for and is clean and polished – with very little tobacco odor. And, have we mentioned, this PIPE IS HUGE!!! It’s more than 7-1/2 inches long! Bowl height is 2.5 inches. Chamber depth is 2.1 inches. You’ll need a long, long time to smoke this baby if you fill it up. Perfect for taking with you to the Pub or spending a quiet time! The surface condition is exceptional. Few, if any, surface marks. There’s a tiny scuff/ding near the imprint on the right side. Another rarity is that this pipe had the P-Lip stem, rather than the fishtail. The stem is free of chatter or scratches and just shines! The Peterson “P” imprint is easily visible, however the “fill” paint is missing. In the last photos this pipe is placed next to a Peterson XL16 Kinsale pipe (a large pipe) to show comparison in size. The XL16 is not included in this sale, it is there for size comparison only.
