Along with the area around Cucciago, Italy, this area has been at the forefront of the Italian pipe renaissance and the Pesaro style has permeated the method and style of pipe makers throughout Italy. The pipe makers of Pesaro all but created neoclassical pipe making. Neoclassical pipes are characterized by their loose interpretation of traditional shapes and their focus upon elegant, artistic lines and curves. Indeed, neoclassicism from Pesaro did to Italian pipes what the early Modernist artistic movements did to sculpture and painting. L’Anatra pipes, though certainly elegantly neoclassical, are more playful. Caminetto is very much a family brand, now with three generations of Ascortis all sharing their craft under this name. Guiseppe Ascorti, or “Peppino” to his friends, was one of the original founders of the marque and played a large role in the brand’s early success. Ascorti later left Caminetto to continue his craft, but the “Pipa Del Baffo” (“the pipe with the mustache”) still held a special place in the hearts of the Ascorti family. This legacy is what led Peppino’s son, Roberto, to revive the old Caminetto name we know and love today. Caminetto pipes are currently made by Roberto and his son Tommaso or “Tommi” Ascorti. The workshop continues to feature many of the shapes which contributed to their spectacular success in the’70s, but recently there has also been something of a shaping/aesthetic revolution afoot. With Roberto and Tommi at the helm, Caminettos now bear either of two stamps: “AR” (Ascorti, Roberto) or “AT” (Ascorti, Tommaso). The AR line presents the work of either Roberto or Tomaso, and continues to include a fine combination of the Caminetto traditional shapes as well as many new, emerging forms. The AT line is Tommi’s alone, and features edge-pushing designs which, heretofore, would have been considered quite unexpected from Caminetto. I Tre Camini The original Caminetto marque was founded in the late’60s. After working as one of Castello’s principle artisans for over ten years, Peppino branched out and created his own independent workshop. Together with Luigi Radice, who also worked for Castello, and Gianni Davoli, they founded the Caminetto brand. “I tre Camini, ” as the trio were later known, soon made their mark on the world of pipes and pipe tobacco, particularly in the United States where Castello pipes were in large demand but extremely scarce – playing heavily on that Italian tradition while adapting and evolving it to something very much their own. CLAUDIO CAVICCHI CCCCC HIGH GRADE BRIAR Smooth HORN Estate Tobacco SMOKING PIPE! This is a Very Very Special and UNIQUE CLAUDIO CAVICCHI Smooth Horn with exotic Tamarind wood insert on stem (CCCCC) Tobacco smoked Pipe. This Horn shaped pipe from Claudio Cavicchi displays some spectacular grain and birdseye. This pipe is definitely deserving of the CCCCC grade that it has been given. Horizontal streaks of grain along the rim and flanks frame the birdseye that are displayed on the bowl’s fore and aft. A tamarind accent has been added to the stem. This pipe is super Rare and Hard to find because of many reasons. Cavicchi is perhaps best known for is the excellent grain of his pipes for over 30 years! He can read briar as though it were a printed page. Maybe his years of farming the land gave him insight into natural elements, but he also takes extra steps to acquire the best-grained briar possible. 1 Claudio Cavicchi almost Never makes a Horn Shape Pipe, I think this is only one of few he has made in his entire artisan career! 2 The Highest Grade of the Brirar, Claudio C. Is very very picky to lay out a 5 C’s on his briars! 3 If you look at the perfection of the tight grain, and tge symmetrical patern the briar exposed tge grain on bothering sides (straight flame) and top and bottom (Birdseye) you will be amazed to see in person! 4 It smokes like a Dream!! With plenty capacity of tobacco!
