This is one of the most interesting pipes that’s crossed my path – it’s a Savinelli Punto Oro with a very nice, carved rustication, and a golden band set with a real diamond! Driven by curiosity, I drove to Borsheims and had a jeweler take a look at this pipe. They informed me that the diamond is indeed real, and they appraised it at 0.015 karats. It slipped my mind to have them check to see if the band is real gold, but my suspicion is that is probably is because surely if you were to set a diamond on a pipe, you’d put it on a real gold band, right? This pipe itself is in great shape, and sports a conically drilled bowl. The shape is a straight billiard with a flat bottom, and it sits nicely. The pipe has also been cleaned and sanitized, and is ready to smoke! Measurements : Weight: 1.25 oz Length: 5.75. Chamber Depth: 1 1/2. Other Notes : The underside of the mortise is stamped “IRC” and TARE… I have not been able to figure out what these mean, but they could be clues as to the mysterious origins of this pipe, and the story behind it..
