1935-46 Sasieni Four Dot Cowes Oom Paul Estate Briar Pipe, English Estate. Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since. The “Cowes, ” named for a town on the UK’s Isle of Wight and (so I’m told) pronounced much like the farm animal, was one of Sasieni’s early Oom Paul shapes. This one, for example, is a Four Dot, making it a post-1924 pipe. The English towns shape-naming convention it exhibits furthermore situates it as post-1935. The underlined “Sasieni” nomenclature, on the other hand, puts it as being pre-1946, with the (slightly faint) patent number on the stem making it likely pre-war, as far as I understand. It’s a great, old English pipe, with Sasieni’s signature rustication style from that era. Interestingly, I have heard that Sasieni’s approach to rustication during these years was not unlike contemporary ring grain sandblasting – i. One of following the growth rings of the briar, to spectacular effect. The condition is very good for the pipe’s age. Fully intact original stinger. Length: 5.2? / 139.7mm. Bowl Width: 0.75 / 18.79mm. Bowl Depth: 1.83? / 46.48mm. Weight: 1.8oz / 52g. Replace this text with your service information.

All pipes are born free! Come rain or shine, we do our best to restore pipes to their former glory, making them as fresh and shining as they were in the beginning of their lifespan. In the restoration process, we put forth our best efforts to clean the pipe using taste- and odor-free alcohol and professional cleaning agents. We ream the chamber and cover it with an active charcoal-based bowl coat, if necessary. We also address scratches, chips, and teeth marks by either removing them or patching them. If needed, we refresh staining, and finally, we buff, wax, and polish the pipe once again. Undoubtedly, it may not be an easy task to restore a masterpiece with decades of history, and sometimes the result of restoration may be very good but not ideal. Therefore, we must acknowledge the existence of minor drawbacks such as wear, darkening, slight roughness, and scratches inside the chamber, as well as insignificant shape asymmetry in the bowl, chamber, or stem, factory fills, and small splits between the shank and stem. Any other possible shortcomings, if present, will be depicted in our pictures or described in detail separately. Hence, we kindly request you to carefully examine all the pictures as they are an integral part of our description. We always strive to provide you with the clearest and most realistic view, allowing you to even see the smallest dots, particles, and imperfections. Please note that the actual color may slightly differ from its appearance on your screen, which can be influenced by your screen’s settings. Additionally, we would like to draw your attention to the approximate dimensions we provide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1-2 mm. To ensure your convenience, we include measurements in both centimeters and inches in our listings, ensuring that our buyers receive a pipe of the desired size and weight. A very fine example from the top-grade Dunhill series. Typically, the absence of the year suffix suggests that the pipe was manufactured in 1960, as indicated by some experts, unless it falls within a patent period. However, the most intriguing detail of this pipe is the expertly replaced shank. The quality of the workmanship and the application of the stamping undeniably indicate that the procedure was conducted directly at the Dunhill factory, either as part of the production cycle or as a service maintenance. Perhaps that’s why the year suffix is missing. Pipe markings “572 F/T”, “DUNHILL \ ROOT BRIAR”, “MADE IN \ ENGLAND”, (2) R. Length 13.7 cm (5.39?). Bowl Height 3.7 cm (1.46?). Outside Diameter 3.7 cm (1.46?). Chamber Diameter 2.0 cm (0.79?). Chamber Depth 3.1 cm (1.22?). Briar, vulcanite stem, inner tube. The pipe appears to be quite lightly smoked, not excluding, of course, some light surface wear and very light inner rim darkening. It has been thoroughly cleaned, polished, sanitized and now is ready for a new life. For our valued customers in the USA, we can provide a return address within the United States for added convenience. Please kindly note that the pipe stands and accessories featured in our pictures are not available for sale. We highly encourage you to explore our other listings, as your desired pipe may await you there.

This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since. Sasieni always had particularly exacting standards for its pipes, even within the highly competitive milieu of 20th century English pipes. So, when a bowl was found to have even the tiniest, superficial imperfection, it would be used for one of Sasieni’s many sub-brands. Such will have been the case for this Old England saddle billiard, though I couldn’t tell you exactly how it missed out on being a Four Dot or Two Dot of some variety. The condition is very good. There’s patches of darkening on the rim, and the nomenclature is a little faded (though still readable), but nothing major. Length: 6? / 152.4mm. Bowl Width: 0.83 / 21.08mm. If 6 was 4. This Dunhill predates the four-digit stamping code by about a decade, and yet, as you can see, bears a four-digit series. I suspect there was some factory mis-stamping at play here. It was initially mistaken as a Group 4 (the circled “4”), then someone came along and attempted to correct the matter by finding a “6” stamp they could fit ahead of the “120” shape number. The pipe is definitely in Group 6 territory as far as a scale goes, and in relatively great condition for it’s age. There’s some minor rim darkening, but the chamber is in fantastic shape and ready for another lifetime of smoking. Comes in the box pictured and will make an excellent addition to any Dunhill aficionado’s collection. The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and it’s ready to be enjoyed with your favorite tobacco. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to add this stunning piece to your rotation or collection. Measurements & Other Details. STAMPING: 6120 DUNHILL BRUYERE MADE IN ENGLAND MADE IN ENGLAND 7 4 {in a circle} A Condition: 4.7/5 Minor rim darkening, Small dent bottom of the bowl, Tooth chatter near the bit. Every pipe Ian Walker creates is based on the grain, shape and size of the briar, giving each pipe its own unique quality. Ian is a third generation pipe maker and been involved in pipe making since he was a young boy. With his vast experience and attention to detail Ian’s Northern Briar pipes offer the smoker the chance to own a piece of classic English manufacture without the production line attitude found with many legacy UK factories. Ever pipe is made from Mediterranean briar and using German rods for Vulcanite & acrylic stems. Each pipe is totally hand made by Ian Walker and all have hand cut stems. Bill Taylor says that Ian does the best stem work in England. His pipes are in the best tradition of classic British pipe making. An interesting aside is that Ian lives with his wife Katerina on a canal boat. His work shop is on the boat. Under British law he can only be moored at one spot for two weeks. So every fortnight Ian moves his house and workshop to a new location on a canal or river in the England. This is one of the finest Northern Briars I’ve owned or even seen! Ian Walker is making some of the best English pipes in current production. Its length, quality of briar work, and condition, demand a high premium, and the pipe deserves it. Just look at the photos. This THICK BOWLED EXTRA LARGE pipe is GORGEOUS, WITH A TRADEMARKED LOGO ACRYLIC STEM! You will not be disappointed when this beauty arrives at your door. The Rox Cut Regal series is a selection of pipes that have been sandblasted. After this process the pipe has more surface space allowing it to smoke cooler than a smooth finish. For its size, this pipe is amazingly light, perhaps owing to using briar from the same supplier as Mr. Bill Taylor of Ashton. This LARGER pipe feels great in the hand and is sure to be cool to the touch while smoking. This pipe is in PERFECT, NEARLY NEW condition, and is sure to deliver everything you’d expect in an English High Grade! Omes with the original LEATHER pipe sock to protect your investment. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to add this stunning piece to your rotation or collection.
